One of the early indicators that your loved one is having trouble is issues with medications. It’s no secret that over dosing or under dosing medications is a bad idea but one other issue you can have is when there are multiple physicians involved. They could be seeing a cardiologist, a pulmunologist, a primary care physician and a geriatric psychologist. That’s the good news. The bad news is that they could all be prescribing different medications. To be on the safe side, make a master list of ALL their medications including, herbs, vitamins and supplements. The list should also include how much of all their medications they take or the dosage as well as the frequency. Once you’ve put this list together, keep it up to date and take it to each of their physicians. This is one sure way that you’ll know there won’t be any adverse reaction between their medications. Finally make sure that your throwing out old prescriptions or expired prescriptions especially if there’s been a med change. I had a resident join my dedicated community because she ended up in hospital from abusing simple over the counter medications. Be careful.
